Prof. Dr. Marilena Maniaci is a university professor of book history at the University of Cassino and Southern Lazio. There, she has held several leadership positions, including vice rector for research, president of the doctoral school, and deputy rector.
Her research focuses on the history of the medieval manuscript and its scholarly description, with a particular emphasis on innovative methods and digital technologies. She is the author of six monographs and over 150 scholarly publications in renowned journals and edited volumes; she has also edited numerous international anthologies. She has participated in several national and European research projects and regularly collaborates with international universities and research centers (including Hamburg, Oslo, Jyväskylä, CNRS-IRHT, and Paris Sciences et Lettres). Since 2025, she has served as president of the “Comité international de paléographie latine.” She serves on the editorial boards of several national and international journals and book series and acts as a reviewer for various European funding organizations and academies (including the ERC, MSCA, ESF, COST, ÖAW, CNRS, FNRS, and FWO).
From 2020 to 2026, she served on the board of directors of the Italian evaluation agency ANVUR. In this role, she was jointly responsible for the agency’s strategic direction, accreditation procedures, and evaluation campaigns, as well as for International Affairs and quality assurance in non-bibliometric disciplines and in the field of higher education in the arts.
In 2023, she was elected to the Board of ENQA; she has been a member of the “Collège” of HCERES since 2021 (term through 2028), and in 2025 she became a member of the German Accreditation Council. She also serves on the Strategic Planning Board of the Hungarian agency MAB and in Thematic Peer Group C (Quality Assurance). In these capacities, she participates in various projects and working groups in the field of quality assurance (including those focused on quality assurance in research, micro-credentials, and transnational education).
She has been a member of numerous international evaluation bodies (AQAS, evalag, HCERES, among others) and serves on scientific advisory boards and in clusters of excellence (IMAFO, Biblissima+, University of Hamburg, PSL).
She speaks Italian (her native language), English, French, and German.
