Katharina Gather (1983) studied German, education and biology at the University of Münster. She then worked as a research assistant in general education at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Zurich and completed her dissertation on the history of education in 2014 with the title “‘Wege in das gelobte Land. Political education and upbringing in the Vormärz, Regeneration and German Revolution 1848/49”.
After her traineeship and second state examination in 2015 in the Ruhr region, she initially worked as a teacher for special tasks at the Institute for General Didactics and School Research at the University of Cologne before accepting a junior professorship for the didactics of education at the University of Paderborn in 2016. After a positive final evaluation, she took up the professorship of “Didactics of Education” at the Institute of Educational Science at Paderborn University in June 2023. In April 2024, she was appointed Professor of Educational Science with a focus on the didactics of education at the University of Cologne.
It has been a member of the Accreditation Council since January 2026.
